Aussies claim Gold in Helsinki

FIVE Australians have claimed top medals at the recent 38th International WorldSkills competition in Helskinki, Finland.

Team Australia, comprising 25 of the country's hest young skill and trades champions, placed 9th out of 43 countries in the intense four-day competition.

More than 800 competitors battled it out to become the world's best in several trade categories ranging from welding, manufacturing, painting and tiling.

Jeremy Grandsen (NSW) won Gold in welding, and the Manufacturing Team Challenge competitors won Gold - Andrew Moore (TAS), Brent Butler (NSW) and Robert Peel (VIC).

Jarrod Langdon (NSW) won a Gold medal in web design and was the best performing Austrahan with the highest performance score.
